Volunteer Spotlight: Anne Ellis

Alliance Partners, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy |

How long have you volunteered with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and how did you hear about us?

Anne Ellis

Anne Ellis

Anne has been volunteering with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) since 2017, when she became the coordinator for the Butterfly Count. She first heard about LWC from Joe Coleman while on a bird walk led by him at the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship (BRCES). Later that year, LWC had set up a booth at the Native Plant Sale, which is where Anne signed up to become a member.

What opportunities have you volunteered for/are signed up for?

In addition to coordinating the Loudoun Wildlife Butterfly Count, Anne is active with the development and stewardship of the new JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary: planting native trees, identifying and removing invasives, and assisting with maintenance tasks. She has led bird walks and butterfly walks, monitored bluebird nest boxes, and participated in the Christmas Bird Count. Anne has attended numerous LWC sponsored events, such as a tour of the vernal pools at BRCES and JK Black Oak, and talks on vultures, butterflies, plants, and more.

What is your favorite natural area in Loudoun County?

Anne’s favorite natural area in Loudoun County is the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship.
