Volunteer Spotlight: Cindy Vough
How long have you volunteered with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) and how did you hear about us?
Cindy is new to Loudoun County, having recently moved here from Lexington, KY. She does not remember how she heard about Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy but believes the manager of Birchwood, where she lives, may have told her about us. Cindy immediately knew LWC would be a group she wanted to connect with!
What opportunities have you volunteered for/are signed up for?
When given the opportunity to lead a group to monitor the bluebird nesting boxes in her neighborhood, Cindy was all in. Cindy says, “I had so much enjoyed seeing the bluebirds as I walked the lake every day and as a retired biologist any excuse to be outside appealed to me. It has been delightful to lead a small group of volunteers who check the boxes weekly then report to the group what they have observed.”
Cindy hopes to become more active with LWC. Had she not been out of town she would have liked to help with the plant sale and plans to do so in the future.
Upon learning Cindy was a quilter, we asked her if she would like to donate a quilt for a raffle in conjunction with the Annual Meeting. She was happy to provide one and told us “I have been making art quilts for about 20 years; frequently the subject matter is nature, plants, and birds.”
Many thanks to Cindy for donating the beautiful Bluebird Art Quilt that will be raffled at the Annual Meeting. Tickets are available for sale through midnight June 5 and at the event.
What is your favorite natural area in Loudoun County?
Cindy has had time to explore just a few of our parks. She most recently went birding in Algonkian Regional Park and has visited Morven Park, Ball’s Bluff, the Blue Ridge Center, and Banshee Reeks. Cindy says, “It has been a pleasure to join several bird walks with LWC and explore an area that is all new to me; I have found the leaders to be very knowledgeable.”
