Celebrate Birds on World Migratory Bird Day/Global Big Day
Unfortunately, the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy has had to cancel all of its bird walks and its Birdathon this spring because of Covid-19. However, there is no reason you can’t celebrate birds this year!
We invite you to join us and countless others around the world on May 9 to participate in World Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day by observing and recording the birds in your backyard and/or local nature preserve.
Because of Covid-19 we will follow recommendations from local public health officials and not gather together as groups or travel distances to many of our area’s best locations. Even so, we can still watch birds and enjoy their beauty and wonder.
Global Big Day and World Migratory Bird Day on May 9 are still fantastic opportunities to connect with birds in your very own yard or local reserve. The ideal way to do this is to watch birds on May 9 and enter what you observe in eBird and email your list(s) to me at jcoleman@loudounwildlife.org . If you don’t have an eBird account but still want to participate, please send me your list(s) of the birds you see on May 9. From that data we will compile a snapshot of the birds in and near Loudoun County to share with everyone.
And, if you wish, you can help the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy financially by donating or getting donations, per species or with a flat pledge. Birding Coordinator, Joe Coleman, personally pledges to donate $5.00 for every species seen in Loudoun County or one of its neighboring counties on May 9.
If you want to make a pledge, email contact@loudounwildlife.org.
