The Blue Ridge Mountains are internationally renowned for their scenic beauty—a treasure for everyone who lives and plays within. Their forested slopes provide clean drinking water to 5 million people downstream.
The Blue Ridge, especially the area between Harpers Ferry in the north, and Front Royal to the south faces unprecedented threats from Eastern West. As the nation’s capital region grows, rapid changes in development patterns, impact natural systems. Ineffective regulations, natural gas pipelines, electric transmission lines, and large infrastructure projects threaten not only scenic beauty but wildlife and our rivers and streams.
Organizations that care about the mountains and their waters have formed the Blue Ridge conservation alliance to turn back these threats. Their founding idea is that retaining the special character of the Blue Ridge Mountains is compatible with a vibrant economy. As a unified force partners are working to protect drinking water and the rich biodiversity of the region. Their strategy is to identify and foster opportunities to enhance outdoor recreation, preserve cultural and historic resources and preserve the scenic beauty and mountain ecosystems. To do this, the alliance will foster a sense of regional identity. advocate for policies that protect the Blue Ridge share resources through an Information Network and speak with one voice on urgent matters affecting the Blue Ridge Mountains.
