Volunteer Spotlight: Lynn Lothman

Alliance Partners, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy |

How long have you volunteered with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) and how did you hear about us?

Lynn comments that during this past year, with all the Covid-19 restrictions, she has had the time to reevaluate how her skills can benefit the community where she and her husband have chosen to retire. The environment and preserving the flora, fauna, and water to leave for future generations is most important to her, “Legacy” Lynn comments. She learned of LWC on the internet and reached out to Kim Strader, the Volunteer Coordinator, who led her through options that would match her skills with the needs of the organization.

What opportunities have you volunteered for/are signed up for?

As a retired teacher, Lynn enjoys working with children and understands how they learn best and loves the lesson planning process. When life is back to normal, Lynn hopes to help develop a Nature Kids program for youngsters who want to learn more about the fragile relationship we have with nature and the specific environment unique to Loudoun County and Northern Virginia.

Lynn is also a creator and spends much of her time in her studio quilting, embroidering, and designing with textile arts. Most recently Lynn created the Wildflower Quilt for LWC to be raffled in conjunction with the Spring Native Plant Sale.

What is your favorite natural area in Loudoun County?

Lynn does not have one favorite natural area in Loudoun but instead loves different ones for different reasons.  She explains that she loves “Ball’s Bluff for the bluebells in spring, Bles Park for the bird watching, the Goose Creek that my husband likes to fish, and even my own backyard near Ida Lee and Morven Park where I occasionally see deer grazing, hawks hunting, and every little creature in spring making a nest!”
