The 2024 Virginia General Assembly
The regular Session of the 2024 General Assembly has concluded. Governor Youngkin is now deciding which bills to sign into law. Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy has been closely involved in advocating for state policy that will affect our wildlife here in Loudoun by participating in legislative initiatives. We have worked in conjunction with our partners at the Virginia Conservation Network (VCN), including tracking bills and speaking with legislators at Conservation Lobby Day.
VCN’s Our Common Agenda provides an overview of the issues. This online publication outlines prominent environmental issue areas of concern for environmental organizations in Virginia. It contains white papers that include policy goals and suggestions that have corresponding bills in the 2024 General Assembly. View Loudoun Wildlife’s Policy Suggestion Priorities.
For information about specific environmental bills relevant to wildlife protection in Loudoun, see Loudoun Wildlife’s list of bills to watch on the Governor’s desk. This bill list is made up of our priority bills that succeeded the legislature, and has updates on those that have been vetoed – and those that have been signed into law (updated 3-29-24). For a full list of all bills that we tracked throughout the 2024 session, see our crossover day bill list here. To track all environmental bills still alive on the Governor’s desk, use VCN’s bill tracker.
For bills and policy issue areas you’re passionate about, don’t hesitate to contact your legislator via phone or email to share your views. You can use the Who’s My Legislator? online tool to find out who your state legislator is and access their contact information.
We are also excited to share the wins we’ve had this General Assembly Session. Many of the land and wildlife conservation bills most important to us succeeded in crossover and have passed their chamber of origin and are onto executive action. Additionally, all bills of opposition have been defeated. Thank you to those that attended Conservation Lobby Day and contacted their legislators about the bills that impact our wildlife in Loudoun.
