Snakes Alive: Our Native Snakes
Snakes play an important role in maintaining the balance and diversity of native species. They keep rodent populations in check and in turn are preyed upon by other animals. While their time is spent filling basic biological needs (food, reproduction, externally regulating body temperature), they remain one of our most feared and misunderstood group of animals. This information and much more was covered by Loudoun Wildlife’s Jenny Ericson during a virtual presentation on March 2 entitled Snakes Alive. This program, sponsored by the Loudoun Master Gardeners through the Loudoun County Public Library, helped participants learn to identify our native snakes as well as how to coexist with them.
