Open Space and Public Health

June 5, 2020 @ 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Join us June 5 at noon for a presentation by Dr. Mark Cucuzzella MD, Professor of Family Medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine. Dr. Mark will explore trends in that show the connections between outdoor recreation and improved health outcomes. He also will share examples of on-the-ground projects that are providing more access to nature for kids and adults, and physicians that are prescribing outdoor recreation to treat obesity and chronic illness. There will be time for Q&A after his talk. We will start the program with brief introductions of organizations and end the session with opportunity for organizations to talk about projects, ask questions or simply give themselves a shout-out.

Dr. Mark is the author of the book “Run for Your Life,” and has generously shared this nature chapter with BRCA partners. You can read more about Dr. Mark’s adventures in healthy living, the Freedom’s Run marathon he organizes, and his Two Rivers Treads running/walking store at Dr. Mark’sDesk. You can order the book from the website, too.

Dr. Mark also shared a link to a recent article, Is It Time To Quarantine Sugar?, written for WV Medicine.
