Volunteer Spotlight: Juli Barnes

Alliance Partners, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy |
Juli Barnes with nestbox

Juli Barnes

In February 2022 Juli attended Loudoun Wildlife’s Bluebird Nestbox Monitoring kickoff and let us know she had a  growing interest in local wildlife and would love to get involved and volunteer.  Since that  time Juli has volunteered with many of our programs.  She has helped at every fair/festival booth (Leesburg Flower and Garden Festival, Bluemont Fair, Appalachian Trail Festival and our Native Plant Sale) and many habitat restoration projects (tree planting, Harrison Street Meadow and Balls Bluff garlic mustard pull). Juli participated in the the Stream Team’s Salt Watch program last winter and recently helped us pack The Native Book of ABCs for Virginia for distribution to Loudoun County first graders.

Juli loves exploring the local parks and trails in Loudoun and says, “My favorite part of nature is listening to and seeing the great variety of birds. I love birds because they’re everywhere and you don’t have to go far to enjoy them.” Last year she joined the Bluebird Nestbox Monitoring team on the Native Tree Walk at Ida Lee Park.  Juli says, “When I get stressed about climate change and environmental issues, walking our bluebird trail helps me feel like I’m doing something constructive to preserve wildlife.”

Thank you to Juli, and all our volunteers, for actively working to preserve wildlife and wildlife habitat in Loudoun.
