Running in the Rain to Raise Money

Alliance Partners, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy |

Run the Greenway participantsDespite the cold and rainy weather on May 7, runners were out in full force for the Second Annual Run the Greenway at the Dulles Greenway’s Mainline Toll Plaza.  This high-energy event started at 7:30 am with the 5k and 10k race just as a downpour of rain arrived.  Thankfully the rain slowed to a drizzle in time for the 800-meter Kids Fun Run that started at 9:30 am.

Over 1,700 runners signed up for this event including virtual participants from across the United States and from around the world.  Some participants brought their dogs along for the run while others brought kids in rain-gear covered strollers.  We enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of the 50 runners that ran in support of Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.  They like this race because it gives them the opportunity to see the Greenway like they never have before – on foot.  Some enjoyed running here because the surface is flat and even with no hills.

We are one of 22 participating non-profit organizations that benefit from this event.  Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy has long partnered with the Dulles Greenway to manage natural resources at the 149-acre Dulles Greenway Wetlands.  Our most recent project with them is the Eagle Cam.  We also monitor Amphibians and survey mammal activity via trail cameras where we recently recorded the River Otter “Poop Party”.
