2024 Birdathon Team Summaries

This is a terrible photo as it is from so far away. It is also wonderful in that it shows a pair of surf scoters which haven`t been seen in Loudoun County since 2012, with only one additional record (back in 1997). While every day is a good day birding, this day was particularly satisfying. I had seen surf scoters before but only on the coast so this was a rare occasion and just the thing to keep the excitement going! Unfortunately I discovered them late in the evening and only a few other birders were able to see them. By morning the scoters had moved on. I`ll be participating in the loudounwildlife Bird-a-thon this year for the first time. We`ll be trying to see as many species of birds in Loudoun County in a 24 hour period.
