Six birders visited the National Beagle Club and Mt Pleasant Farm as part of our Celebrate Birds walk series. A Brown Thrasher serenaded them but played hard to find in a grove of River Birches.

Loudoun Wildlife Volunteer Bruce Hill captured this photo of a White-eyed Vireo while co-leading the Celebrate Birds walk at the Broad Run Stream Valley in Brambleton. This wonderful habitat showcases Loudoun’s natural beauty and protects an island of life in fast-growing Ashburn. The number and variety of birds slowed the group’s pace for the first hour to a crawl, but eventually they completed a circuit of approximately two and a half miles and spotted an impressive 66 species.

Both species of local Orioles were spotted on a Celebrate Birds walk at Algonkian Regional Park on May 1. Led by Bryan Henson and Larry Meade, our group of 14 birders saw 76 species of birds. What a wonderful walk!

The Fully-palmated Birders are reviewing our lists from this weekend, but I think we recorded 117 species this weekend during #LWCBirdathon2022.
We covered a lot of miles and saw a lot of birds, so now we just wait and see how we stack up against the other teams. And there’s still time for you to click the link in my bio to donate to support loudounwildlife programs.

Reports from the Field: Team Summaries
Bad Weather Doesn’t Deter the Whisky Drinking Warbler Watchers
The Whisky Drinking Warbler Watchers (Scott Harris, Peter Lyttle, Robert Justin, Linda Millington and Tysen Perszyk) picked out a 48 hour period in early May with goal of seeing 100 species of birds. Our luck turned for the worse when we saw the forecast for the weekend. Read More…
