DESCRIPTION:Blue Ridge Conservation Alliance Quarterly Gathering\nJoin your BRCA friends and partners August 17 at the Shenandoah Lodge at Lake Frederick\, 180 Bald Eagle Dr\, Lake Frederick\, VA 22630\, from 9am–11:30am. \nWe’ll start with lightening updates from partners. Then our hosts\, Marv Davis and John Toliver\, with Friends of Lake Frederick (FOLF)\, will share the story of Lake Frederick and its surrounding area\, the watershed\, history of FOLF\, their water quality sites\, the Nature Trail\, and collaboration with VDWR. John and Marv will guide us on a walk to the proposed site of the pollinator meadow on the DWR buffer zone that FOLF will help establish\, and then over to the dam to view the lake and below. \nFOLF will provide light refreshments. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join us June 5 at noon for a presentation by Dr. Mark Cucuzzella MD\, Professor of Family Medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine. Dr. Mark will explore trends in that show the connections between outdoor recreation and improved health outcomes. He also will share examples of on-the-ground projects that are providing more access to nature for kids and adults\, and physicians that are prescribing outdoor recreation to treat obesity and chronic illness. There will be time for Q&A after his talk. We will start the program with brief introductions of organizations and end the session with opportunity for organizations to talk about projects\, ask questions or simply give themselves a shout-out. \nDr. Mark is the author of the book “Run for Your Life\,” and has generously shared this nature chapter with BRCA partners. Attendees will participate in conversations about: \n\nthe value of conscious stewardship for properties large & small\nnew ways of thinking about landscaping to preserve existing features and attract desired birds\, bees\, & butterflies\nthe importance of cultivating native plant species\nsimple stewardship practices & resources for home and property owners.\n\nLight refreshments served at 6:30 pm.
